FUNDING BOOST FOR SPORTING FACILITY IN MACARTHUR REGION

Funding for a multi-purpose community, sporting and recreation complex to meet the growing needs of the Macarthur region has been announced by the Iemma Government.

The Minister for Sport and Recreation, Graham West and Member for Camden, Geoff Corrigan, said the Iemma Government has allocated $500,000 towards the development of the Raby Sports Complex at Raby Rd, Raby

"These improvements will deliver a top notch facility for cricket and hockey in the area," Mr Corrigan said.

"This funding boost will enable major improvements to facilities for players and athletes at Raby Sports complex".

The complex, Mr West said, will include an indoor training area and a community function room.

"The new centre will be a focal point for both men and women's cricket in NSW, and will feature improved amenities for hockey,' Mr West said.

"The complex will be a high quality sport and recreation facility for the people of Campbelltown".

The Chairman of the NSW Cricket Board, Dr Harry Harinath, said the Government's contribution would be matched by $500,000 funding from Cricket NSW.

"The upgrade will allow the Complex to host State and National cricket carnivals", Dr Harinath said.

Further, the Macarthur area is a very important nursery for cricket so the provision of appropriate cricket facilities for these players is critical."

Mr Corrigan said the Raby Sports Complex currently hosts more than 50 teams of women's hockey as well as district men's and women's cricket.

This complex will give more people the opportunity to participate in sport and recreation".

Campbelltown City Council has already indicated their support for the project and this is a great example of community and government working together.

Cricket NSW will manage the project works on behalf of the cricket fraternity.
